Which nail enhancement is best for me?

Looking to enhance the appearance of your nails?  With three types of artificial nail enhancements to chose from, acrylics, gels and fiberglass/silk wraps, The Charles Penzone Family of Salons surely offers one that’s right for you!  Continue reading for a quick guide on nail enhancements at the Charles Penzone Family of Salons.

Acrylic Nails:
  • Made by mixing a powder and a liquid.
  • Length of the natural nail can be extended by sculpting the nail with a form or by gluing on a tip and applying the acrylic over top.
  • Acrylic nails are especially helpful in changing the look of abnormal or damaged looking nails because the artificial nails can be sculpted to hide imperfections.
  • The acrylic enhancements can easily be made to look like French polished nails and maintained by follow-up whitening balances.  As with any nail, they can also be polished with any of our popular OPI nail lacquers.
  • Acrylic enhancements are the strongest, most durable option.  Acrylics are the best choice for anyone who is exceptionally hard on their nails, performs various tasks in water or who continually bites their nails.
  • Acrylic nails are not for you if you work with chemicals including acetone. Because acrylics are the strongest nail enhancement, your natural nail may be weak after the removal of the acrylic nail.

Gel Enhancements:
  • Gel nail enhancements are actually a form of acrylic, only in the gel form, that is cured under a UV light.
  • Gel nails take the shape of your own natural nail and tend to look more natural.
  • The product itself is softer than acrylics, therefore, can be less damaging to the natural nail.
  • Usually, gel enhancements are extended by using a tip, but can also be extended by sculpting on a form.
  • The gels can easily be made into a French manicure look without the extra filing it would take with an acrylic nail.
  • The gels also finish with a super shiny top coat that adds to the beauty of these nails.
  • Gels are not the enhancements for you if you have flat nail beds, are exceptionally hard on your nails, perform various tasks in water, bite your nails or if your nails are damaged or abnormal.

Fiberglass/Silk Wraps
  • Fiberglass/silk wraps are a mixture of nail glue and a fiber mesh that is either silk or fiberglass.
  • The wraps take on the shape of your natural nail and are very natural looking.
  • Once the glue is applied over the fiber mesh, the fibers become transparent.
  • Fiberglass/Silk Wraps are the least damaging of all the artificial enhancements.
  • Fiberglass/Silk Wraps are also used for natural nail repairs so that broken nails can easily be repaired.   These are also the best choice for a guest that needs help growing out their natural nails.
  • The fiberglass/silk wraps are not for you if you are exceptionally hard on your nails, perform various tasks in water, bite your nails or if you work in acetone or with chemicals.

This is wonderful information. I didn't know that there were alternatives to acrylic nails. Thanks!
