Q & A: Why does my hair style better when our water is “hard?”

Q: When my water softener at home runs out of salt, my hair styles so much easier.  Why does my hair style better when our water is “hard?”

A: I gather that you may have "fine" to "medium" hair that may lay limp with softened water. "Hard" water contains high amounts of iron that build up on the hair.  This mineral deposit can make the hair feel thicker and can sometimes create an illusion of more volume.  While you may experience ease in styling initially, the result will only be temporary.  The minerals will continue to build and will weigh the hair down, causing difficulty when styling.  Since you typically have “soft” water at home, I would suggest that you schedule a consultation with a Charles Penzone hair professional who can help recommend a great product that can create the look you want to achieve when styling.
